  • How do I know if bees are on my property?
If you have a nesting swarm on your property, you'll notice bees coming and going from a dark cavity. This could be in a tree, in a wall or in any other sheltered cavity. Dirty marks around the entrance can hint to where the bees are nesting. Nesting bees will become aggressive if provoked, so a removal is best left to a professional beekeeper. Foraging bees behave differently - they are less aggresive than nesting bees and should not require intervention.
  • How do I know if wasps are on my property?
Wasp nests are easy to identify - look for pale paper-like structures under roofs, pergolas or any other sheltered overhang. In South Africa, wasps generally prefer to build their nests on north-facing facades. Wasps are very aggressive and will sting if provoked. Call a professional for assistance when removing wasps.
  • When will the bees/wasps be removed?
BeeGone can assist with bee and wasp removals between 08:00 and 17:00 on weekdays. Emergency callouts and removals booked for Saturdays will be charged extra. If you cannot be present during work hours, we are happy to make arrangements with friends or family to gain access to the property. Removals usually take up to 4 hours.
  • Are bees/wasps dangerous?
Bees communicate with each other very well. This becomes dangerous when a swarm is provoked - a bee sting leaves a scent that will attract more bees. If a person is stung multiple times, an attack can be fatal. Be cautious around bees during hot weather or when near a nest. Wasps can sting humans multiple times. Their territorial, aggressive nature tends to be heightened during hot weather.
  • What should I do until a beekeeper arrives?
The best thing to do is leave the bees/wasps alone. Close any windows and doors near the nest, and keep children and animals away from the area. Spraying the bees/wasps with water or insect spray will only make them angrier.
